Directing the flow: A win in the Waikato

Earlier in the year Victoria on the River won in the Planning & Urban Design category of the NZIA 2018 Waikato/Bay of Plenty Architecture Awards.

The project group included Edwards White Architects, AECOM New Zealand and Schick Civil Construction. Working with these talented organisations we provided custom-made fencing that was designed to seamlessly fit in with the surrounding environment while also meeting stringent compliance standards.

The result of these efforts is a beautiful multi-level space that is accessible and adaptable for a wide range of uses. The amphitheatre-style now links Hamilton’s central business district with the Waikato River. The stepped gardens, terraces and wide boardwalks provides the perfect areas for locals and visitors to meet up, watch a performance or just sit back and watch the river go by.

With the rapidly flowing Waikato close by it was important the location could also protect visitors both from falling in the drink or down the steeper embankment sections. Our Premier raking fencing delivered a suitably stylish and safe border here.

We are proud of seeing our work attached to such a beautiful, vibrant space. As summer arrives we’re sure this location will be a huge drawcard as a conduit and meeting space between the urban and natural landscapes.
